Does everyone dream? by Simran M - Why Life Coach Malti endorses and encourages recalling your dreams
To accomplish great things, we must dream as well as act - Anatole France
In my years of life coaching and personal development, I have learned that so much of how we observe our world and make our decisions are driven by our subconscious. One of the most accessible methods to tap into this subconscious is through our dreams. Simran has interpreted many many months of my lucid dreams and the culmination of the learning has been astoundingly beautiful.
Symbols have shown up in my dreams and then manifested in my waking reality soon after. I have developed a deep understanding of so many of my own subconscious beliefs and those of my clients through dream interpretation.
Look out for Simran’s earlier post for more explanations on dreaming.

Many people say, “We don’t dream.” Actually that is not true. Everyone dreams, not once but at least 4 -5 times every night. It’s just that not everyone remembers his or her dreams. Scientific studies have shown that our brain is made up of 100 billion neurons. These neurons work by constantly firing energy. The number of times per second that they fire and rest is called their frequency. Throughout the day, our brain is pulsing at one of the five frequencies called Beta, Alpha, Theta and Delta. One frequency dominates in any given situation. When we are wide-awake, thinking, talking, alert, Beta is the predominant brain frequency.
As we drift off to sleep, our brain waves slow down from Beta and move through Alpha, Theta and Delta. After a period of deep sleep for about 90 minutes, our brain waves start speeding up again and we drift back from Delta through Theta into the Alpha state. This is where dreams take place. The Alpha state is where REM (rapid eye movements) takes place. Our bodies are still but our eyes move quickly beneath closed lids. This lasts from 3 – 5 minutes. Then our brainwaves start slowing down again and move into the Delta state for another 90 minutes of deep sleep, before moving back into the Alpha state for a second dream cycle. Assuming that a person gets about 8 hours of sleep a night, he/she has 4-5 dreams per night.
During the dream state, we mostly review the events of the previous day, because we deal with whatever problem is uppermost in our minds. Sometimes we dream of something exactly the way it had happened the previous day. But if you pay careful attention, there will be something different in it than the real event. It means that there was a learning for you in that situation which you failed to process correctly. The dream presents the clues for you to reassess the situation and learn the lesson. If you go to bed with a problem on your mind that you don’t know how to solve, you get dreams that gives you clues on how to solve it. If you’re looking for a new idea or a new way of doing something, you will get a dream that will give you ideas and insights.
In the process of getting ideas and solutions to our immediate problems, dreams also give us lessons for our overall spiritual growth. For those of us who don’t remember our dreams, we awake joyously knowing the answer that we were looking for. Or sometime during the day or over the next few days, we suddenly get an idea or inspiration, or listen to something or read something that gives us the ideas and solutions that we were looking for. We are just not aware that these answers were given to us during the night, in our dreams. Geniuses like Albert Einstein and many others knew how to tap into this universal knowledge and apply it in their waking life.
I have come across people who don’t dream for long periods of time or haven’t had a dream in ages and suddenly they start dreaming rampantly. This means that there is a strong message that is trying to get through the defenses of their psyche. When we are awake, our ego is active and is protected by the subconscious net that does not allow any information to seep through that is painful, threatening and goes against our beliefs. But while we are asleep, these defenses are down and the information can come forward.
In the next episode I shall share some tips on how to recall your dreams.
